Myra Lewis

Owner and Operator

Myra Lewis, the original creator of The Dance Tutor, started this business in May 2020 to help educate dancers to stay moving in a global pandemic. Miss Lewis has been dancing since the age of 2 and through her 15 years in the field of dance has learned, grown, and had the ability to experience all types of genres that have shaped her into the dancer she is today.  

Myra Lewis began her dance career in Fort Collins, Colorado at the age of 2 and later continuing her career in Texas at Suzzane's School of Dance. After moving to North Carolina attended Leap of Faith Dance Academy really grew into a powerhouse of a dancer. Myra Lewis had the opportunity to be a member of the Leap of Faith Dance Academy Junior company Dance Team. Having the ability to dance across the city of Charlotte and sharing the gift of dance to strangers. 

 

During her time at Leap of Faith Dance Academy, she was granted the opportunity to attend the Debbie Allen Dance Intensive in Atlanta, GA. She learned foundational skills in Ballet, Jazz, African, Modern, Hip Hop, and Tap dance that has allowed her to grow not just her dance skills but her performance skills and teaching skills.

After attending Leap of Faith Dance Academy she attended Piedmont School of Music and Dance. Growing her foundation in ballet, contemporary, and modern dance. Myra Lewis had the opportunity to participate in high profile shows, like The Nutcracker and many others. Also, she first gained the opportunity to compete in nationwide competitions.

After attending Piedmont School of Music and Dance, she now attends Upstage Center of Performing Arts and also is a member of the Cox Mill Dance Department. Myra Lewis is the two year Dance Captain of the Cox Mill Dance Team and is constantly making history as the only dancer to be a 4-year member of the Cox Mill Dance Team.

As she has had countless opportunities in the Cox Mill Dance Department, she has received many lead roles in the Cox Mill High School production of The Nutcracker as Snow Queen, Flute, and even Clara.

Myra Lewis through her dance career has been award with many very prestigious awards, but most recently has been awarded Cox Mill High School Dance Department's Best Dancer. Also, has been award the Best Female Dancer from North Carolina Association for Scholastic Activities making her the first in Cox Mill history to receive this high-caliber award.

 

As she has competed over the past recent years she has been recognized for her high placement in regional and nationwide events. She has also been invited to countless amount of event that has helped grow her skills in dance education and dance technique

Myra Lewis has also been recongized through Second Calvary Baptist Church and other organizations for her dance and community service skills.

As she is a senior at Cox Mill High School, she will be attending Howard University in the fall as a Biology Pre-Med Major!
